Yup, that’s what I was doing this morning. I’ve been working on a new story, the core of which involves a couple having an affair at a hotel in Manhattan. The thing is — and I feel incredibly naive admitting this — I had no idea what hotel to use as a prototype.
So I had this brilliant idea. I thought I’d finally avail myself of group knowledge. I went to a website known for it’s active, knowledgeable and opinionated participants and started a new thread: Recommendations Sought for (Sleazy or Discreet) Hotels to Have an Affair. Of course, I explained that I wanted to use the material for a book. Of course, one or two were suspicious. But all responded.
Within 10 minutes, I had about fifteen suggestions! Now that’s fast research!
